We agree that these stators are weak from the factory. Only 4 of the 6 wires from the staor go to the CDI, all other 8 cdi wires go to accessories/switches. the 'crankshaft sensor'or trigger goes to the TPS and the CDi. The red and white disappear into the igniter/CDI. to charge battery (Simplified explanation). The Blue wire goes to the headlight and the regulator rectifier and the yellow goes directly to the reg/rect. i see what you are talking about on the schematic I printed from the manual. Sorry man, been sick as a dog for the past week. Any thoughts or comments on this would be very appreciated. I guess I'm a little confused on why this would pass resistance test, but have weak output from stator.Įven though this stator passed resistance test, I think it is bad and needs a rewind. I did check the magnetism of the flywheel with an old mechanics trick and lightly held a screwdriver close to the flywheel. I read that the cdi charge voltage was supposed to be in the 60 to 80 VAC range at low idle and up to 200 VAC at rpm Green wire and white/yelllow wire(2) this is the trigger wire and has 1.6VAC and 240 ohms

As per manual Blue to ground? 1.9 ohms and yellow to ground? 2.1 ohms Red wire and white wire(2) this is from the charge coils on the stator and charge the cdi capacitor 21 VAC and 35.6 ohmsīlue wire and yellow wire(2) this goes to the Reg/Rect to charge the battery 1.05VAC.

Here are the ranges of the Voltages AC I got from the stator. I ended up using my drill and a socket to turn the engine over (yes I ran it counter clockwise). I know this is not the correct cdi and I did not plan on using it, just wanted to make sure it had a spark before continuing with this project.

I do have a cheapie ac fired Chinese cdi box and have tried to get something out of this engine. It seems to be in the proper range of resistance.

I did download the KLX 450 manual and have checked the resistance values of all wires from stator. Since there is no electrical system with this engine (connector cut off from stator) its tough figuring out all the particulars. My son wants to make a project out of this engine. Unfortunately, there were no electrics, carb or exhaust that came with the engine. I know that this subject has been beaten to death, but i acquired a free 08 KLX 450r engine.
